The Port Huron Housing Commission and Presbyterian Villages of Michigan are pleased to announce the Community Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Celebration for The Village of Lake Huron Woods, Phase II, that is being held on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. The public is invited to attend the program and tour the senior community’s newest addition. Refreshments will be served.
The Village of Lake Huron Woods, Phase II, represents a partnership between the Port Huron Housing Commission and Presbyterian Villages of Michigan and includes 90 new affordable apartments and homes, with 45 apartments in a two-story building and 45 ranch-style homes in 12 separate buildings, all located in a beautiful, wooded setting. It will serve individuals age 55 and over. This $30 million-dollar development was funded through the participation of the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA), PNC Bank, RiverHills Bank, St. Clair County, and philanthropic support. An economic assessment estimated an impact of almost $200 million to the surrounding region over the next ten years. Close cooperation was provided by Fort Gratiot Township in the planning and approval of the development. Construction will be completed by the fall.
Phase II is the expansion of the broader non-profit Village of Lake Huron Woods campus that was initially opened in 2004. Phase I consists of 104 apartments and 12 ranch-style homes for persons age 55 and over. The Sunrise PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) Center was added to the campus in 2021 by Region 7 Area Agency on Aging.
Commenting on the Celebration, James Dewey, Executive Director, of the Port Huron Housing Commission stated, “We are excited to provide truly affordable housing for seniors in a peaceful wooded environment for decades to come.” Village of Lake Huron Woods Administrator, Jennifer Loshaw, said “This is such an exciting time for our campus and PVM’s vision. We are so blessed to have the ability to help our area seniors find a home that truly allows them to age in place. Providing a beautifully appointed campus, with caring staff and a multitude of services that are available as need arises.” Fort Gratiot Township Supervisor, Rob Montgomery, shared “The expansion of The Village of Lake Huron Woods reflects the strength of collaboration in addressing the housing needs of our senior population. This development is a meaningful investment in the future of our community.” “At MSHDA, we’re proud to have invested in the second phase of The Village of Lake Huron Woods, where public, private, and philanthropic resources come together to create more than just housing. These 90 new homes offer older adults a safe, affordable, and dignified place to age within a community thoughtfully designed to support their physical and social needs,” said Amy Hovey, MSHDA CEO and Executive Director.
