McFarlan Villages is wrapping up the final week of hosting four long-term care graduate students from Taiwan. Through a partnership with the University of Michigan-Flint Nursing Department, McFarlan provided job shadowing and internship opportunities for the students over a three week period. The goal of the students’ course is to compare long term care in the United States to that in Taiwan. Feedback from the students has been very positive! They have been very impressed that our communities aren't institutional, feel like home, and that our staff and residents interact like a family. They have also enjoyed being in the Flint college and cultural center, learning about our city’s revitalization. The cultural exchange for our staff has been so rewarding! I'm sure there will be some PTO requests for vacations to Taiwan in the near future to reconnect with new friends.
We are wrapping up their final week with our inaugural Senior Summer Camp. McFarlan Villages will be providing an authentic summer camp experience this Monday through Thursday, 11am-5pm for seniors in our assisted living, independent living, and local seniors from the deaf community.
